The first mpox in Talisay City, Negros Occidental was confirmed.
MPOX IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – Mayor Neil Lizares confirmed the first case in Talisay City, and revealed details about the patient.
There have been several cases recorded in various parts of the country already. Last May, six mpox cases in Davao City were confirmed. Recently, in Negros Occidental, Talisay City has logged its first case.

Mayor Neil Lizares released a statement regarding this and revealed that the infected patient is now in stable condition, and is under close medical supervision and proper isolation. The patient also receives appropriate medical treatment to manage symptoms.
Contract tracing was also ordered, and all necessary health protocols have been carried out to prevent further transmission. Lizares assured the people that the city is prepared to deal with the situation and urged the public to remain calm and informed.
“Mpox is a manageable disease, and with strict adherence to proper health protocols, we can effectively prevent its further spread,” he said, and also added, “Let us work together to protect the health and safety of our community.”
Meanwhile, in a previous article, wearing a face mask is not effective in preventing mpox, according to the Department of Health (DOH). It has two types: Clade I, which causes more severe illness and deaths, and Clade II, which causes less severe infections. In the Philippines, we still don’t have the deadlier variant.
As per WHO, the viral illness may cause symptoms such as painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, and low energy.
Transmission included:
- Skin-to-skin: Touching, hugging, or $3x
- Mouth-to-mouth or mouth-to-skin contact: Kissing
- Face-to-face with someone who has mpox: Talking or breathing close to one another, which can generate infectious respiratory particles
- Through indirect contact with contaminated surfaces like beddings, clothing, and linens
