Statement of Malacañang in Response To Duterte’s Negative Claim vs. Marcos Jr.

Malacañang responded to a question if President Bongbong Marcos also regretted teaming up with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2022.

The Filipino people witnessed the souring relationship between Pres. Marcos and Vice Pres. Duterte since June 2024 when the Vice President left the Marcos Cabinet. She resigned from being the secretary of the Department of Education due to both work and personal reasons.

Duterte has thrown tirades against Marcos Jr. multiple times. The soured relationship between the highest and the second-highest officials in the government was triggered by the controversial arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11.

Since she left the Marcos cabinet, most especially during the 2025 Elections campaign period, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte was apologizing to the Filipinos for endorsing Pres. Bongbong Marcos in 2022. Presidential sister and senator Imee Marcos also apologized to the Vice President for convincing her to run with her brother.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed she has problems with Pres. Bongbong Marcos’ performance as the leader of the country. According to her, she has no ill feelings against the Chief Executive for the alleged “political persecution” but his alleged violation of the laws supposedly does not sit well with her.

Recently, Malacañang was asked if Pres. Bongbong Marcos also regretted running with Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2022. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Palace press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said it is not the attitude of the President to speak negative things.

“Sa ugali po ng Pangulo, hindi po natin madidinig ang ganung klaseng negatibo mula sa kanya. Wala tayong aasahan na kung anong paninira kanino man. Yan po ang pangulo,” the Malacañang official said.

According to Atty. Claire Castro, if there are people who regretted teaming up with Pres. Bongbong Marcos, “it’s their loss not the President’s”. Based on the report, the Malacañang Officer also said that the Vice President regretting her tandem with the President is already an old issue.

“Ulit-ulit ang kanyang issue. Wala na ho yatang bago. Dati na ho niyang sinabi yang nagsisisi siya,” Castro expressed.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has been to multiple travels abroad — Qatar, Netherlands, Malaysia, and Australia in less than a month. Amid her recent frequent travels abroad, Vice Pres. Duterte claimed she does not like traveling.
