New PNP chief Nicolas Torre also said that cases of bullying in schools may now be reported to PNP 911 hotline. Recently, he also revealed his move on the case of overweight cops.

Based on a report on GMA News, Torre cited that the officials and members of the PNP are subject to maintain weight “not more or less than five kilograms of the standard weight corresponding to his or her height” as well as age and biological gender. It is stated in the Section 30 of Republic Act No. 6975, also known as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990.

“So ibig sabihin, kung may standard weight and height, hindi ka dapat sobra ng five [kilos], hindi ka mababa,” the PNP Chief told Super Radyo dzBB.

According to Torre, cops who are overweight will be given six months up to one (1) year to lose their excess weight. However, if they failed to do so, they may be sacked.

“After one year, may [there will be] separation from the service,” Torre said.

Based on the report, with regards to the case of overweight PNP officials and members who have medical conditions, they may face “complete disability discharge” or they may also be transferred to do administrative work. According to Torre, he will talk to the National Police Commission (Napolcom) over the matter.

The appointment of new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III earned different reactions — for Davao Mayor Baste Duterte, it is allegedly based on favor.
