Former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves Brought To Hospital

ARNIE TEVES – The lawyer of the former Negros Oriental Congressman confirmed that his client was rushed to a hospital early today.

Last May 28, Teves was arrested by the authorities at his residence in Timor-Leste. According to his son, Axl Teves, the arrest allegedly came without any document nor warrant of arrest against his father.

It was later on confirmed that the former Negros Oriental Congressman was arrested by the immigration officers at his house in Dili, Timor-Leste. The former politician was out of the Philippines for more than a year now since he was accused as the alleged mastermind in the killing of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo.

According to the Timor-Leste government, Teves was arrested due to his expired travel Visa as well as for the lack of an authorization to stay in the country. His deportation was immediately ordered by the foreign government.

The next day following his arrest, former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves boarded the Philippine Air Force plane that carried him back to the Philippines. The former politician asked the authorities not to handcuff him during the travel but it was not allowed. The authorities maintained that they should implement the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Upon his return to the Philippines, Teves was able to see his mother again whom he did not see for two (2) years. Together with his mother and his lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, he faced the media and expressed his request for the court to act swiftly on the charges against him.

According to Arnie Teves, he knew that eventually he will have to face it. He admitted that he is sad as he has to be detained while the legal proceedings are ongoing but he is also happy to finally see his mother and to start the process.

“At least, ma ano na rin, matapos na rin. Dahil kahit no’ng nandun ako, inisip ko, kung hindi man ako umuwi kailangan pa rin nitong matapos, eh,” he said.

Former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves is faced with several charges. Recently, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio revealed that his client was rushed to the hospital early today.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Atty. Topacio said Teves “has been complaining of severe stomach pains since midnight last night”. The former Negros Oriental Congressman received medical attention at 5:00 in the morning and he was brought to an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.

Previously, following the arrest and the deportation of the former Negros Oriental Congressman, Pres. Bongbong Marcos said it is now time for Arnie Teves to “face justice”.
