Former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves Deported by Timor-Leste Gov’t

ARNIE TEVES – The former Congressman of Negros Oriental is reportedly set to return to the Philippines from Timor-Leste on board a Philippine Air Force plane.

Recently, countless Filipinos were shocked after reports that former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves was arrested in Timor-Leste “without documents and warrants”. The arrest was shared by the former politician’s son, Axl Teves.

Teves is faced with several charges in the Philippines. He is the principal suspect in the death of the late former Governor Roel Degamo who was killed last March 4, 2023 at his residence in Pamplona. Several men barged in the residence of the Degamos and launched the attack.

Aside from Degamo, nine (9) other people died from the attack while several others were left injured. The then-Governor was rushed to the hospital but he did not make it. His wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, called for justice for her husband’s death as well as the demise of several others who were at their home when the incident happened.

Arnie Teves is accused as the alleged mastermind behind the death of Roel Degamo — which he previously denied in a series of Facebook posts. He was already in abroad when his name was implicated in the case.

Former Negros Oriental Congressman Arnie Teves refused to return to the Philippines amid the calls for him to go home and face the charges against him. He claimed that two (2) high-ranking officials of the government allegedly want him dead.

Teves was reportedly arrested by the immigration officers in Timor-Leste for the lack of a valid Visa as well as a legal authorization to stay in the country. The government of the Southeast Asian nation ordered for the immediate deportation of the former Negros Oriental Congressman.

Following the reports that the Timor-Leste government ordered Arnie Teves to be deported, the former Negros Oriental 3rd District Congressman reportedly boarded the plane that will carry him back to the Philippines.

Based on a report on Inquirer, citing the live telecast of SMNews, Arnie Teves boarded the Philippine Air Force shortly past 1:00 p.m. He was tagged as an alleged “threat to national security”, thus, the Timor-Leste court ordered his immediate deportation.

Following the arrest of the former Negros Oriental Congressman, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo issued a statement. The widow of the late former Governor Roel Degamo, expressed that she is looking forward to proper legal proceedings that will give justice to the death of he beloved husband.
