PNP Officers Can’t Be Promoted if Failing to Pass Fitness Test

PNP officers who will fail the fitness test twice can’t be promoted, according to PNP Chief PGen. Nicolas Torre III.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reminded all officers to stay physically fit is now more important than ever. Under the directive of PNP Chief PGen. Nicolas Torre III, police officers who fail the annual Physical Fitness Test (PFT) twice will no longer be eligible for promotion or re-training.

The move aims to ensure that officers are truly fit for duty not just on paper, but in real life. The PFT is a mandatory requirement each year, and its goal is to confirm that officers can carry out their duties not just in operations, but in all police-related activities.

The PNP is now focusing more on the physical condition of its personnel. Officers are encouraged to maintain a healthy weight, height, and body mass index (BMI) appropriate for their age.

The standard states that an officer’s weight should not go beyond five kilos above their ideal weight.

To meet these expectations, the PNP leadership is urging its members to begin regular exercise as early as possible. Jogging and daily workouts are recommended to help improve strength and endurance.

General Torre himself sets an example, being known for his discipline and physical strength.

According to PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo, the fitness standards will serve as a reflection of the discipline and readiness expected of police officers. While each person has a different body type, a well-maintained figure, especially a smaller waistline, helps build public trust.

However, the new rule will not apply to officers with disabilities or serious medical conditions. The PNP assures that these cases will be handled with care and proper evaluation.
