VP Sara Duterte Impeachment: Senators Wear Robes During Oath Except For These Three

Senators take their oath as senator-judges for the impeachment of VP Sara Duterte, but these three senators did not.

VP SARA DUTERTE IMPEACHMENT – Senators Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, and Robin Padilla did not wear robes when they took oath.

Previously, Senate President Chiz Escudero took an oath as presiding officer of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte following several delays and amid the calls of senators allied with Duterte to dismiss the case for lack of time. From June 2, the trial was moved to June 11.

After the Senate chief took his oath, the 24 incumbent senators of the 19th Congress took their oaths Tuesday evening as judges in the impeachment trial of the vice president. It was held at 6 PM after a delay caused by Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa, who moved to dismiss the proceedings, citing alleged “constitutional infirmities” during a privilege speech.

Senator Joel Villanueva disagreed with the motion, citing that the Senate cannot dismiss the proceedings without convening as an impeachment court first. The Senate president agreed with Villanueva and did not recognize Dela Rosa’s motion.

Escudero led the oath-taking ceremony of the 23 senators. They were present wearing their impeachment robes as he officially convened the Senate as an impeachment court. However, there were three senators who did wear their robes, and they are Senators Cynthia Villar, Imee Marcos, and Robin Padilla.

When asked where his robe is, Padilla replied, “Hindi kasya.”
