PAGASA Says LPA and Habagat to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that LPA and the southwest monsoon will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Monday (June 9, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. A low-pressure area and southwest monsoon will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina reported that a low-pressure area and the Southwest Monsoon will bring rains over parts of Luzon.

The LPA was last spotted 85 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union. It is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon if it develops into a tropical cyclone.

If the low-pressure area develops into a tropical depression, it will be the first tropical cyclone to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 2025.

“It may develop into a tropical cyclone, possibly tomorrow or in the coming days. Based on current projections, it is expected to move westward away from our country and may exit the PAR in the next few days,” Badrina said.

“The effects of the southwest monsoon are expected to continue, particularly in western Luzon and the Visayas. We anticipate that much of Luzon and the Visayas will experience rainfall due to the southwest monsoon,” Badrina said.

The southwest monsoon will be affecting the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Habagat will bring moderate to heavy, occasional rains over Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Metro Manila, Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected over Mindanao.

The weather agency has advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the coastal water conditions over western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas will be moderate to rough. Slight to moderate waters is expected over the remaining parts of the country, according to PAGASA
