Siblings Die After Being Electrocuted While Fixing Power Line in Binalbagan

Siblings Lost Their Lives Due to Electrocution

Two siblings died after being electrocuted while working on an electrical line at a local eatery in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.

Electrocution is a serious injury or death caused by electric shock. It happens when a person comes into contact with a high-voltage electrical current, and the electricity passes through the body. This can damage internal organs, stop the heart, or cause burns.

To prevent electrocution, always handle electricity with care, use safety equipment, and call professionals when dealing with electrical issues.

On Monday afternoon (June 2, 2025), two individuals lost their lives after being electrocuted while trying to repair a power line in Barangay San Pedro. The victims were identified as Dexter Grijaldo, 45, and Rollan Grijaldo, 48. Both were married and lived in Barangay Sto. Rosario in the same town.

According to the Binalbagan Municipal Police, the brothers were fixing the lights on the canopy of a restaurant called Caloy’s Grille. While working, Dexter accidentally touched a live wire. When his brother Rollan saw what happened, he quickly tried to help him.

Unfortunately, he was also electrocuted in the process. People nearby rushed to help and immediately brought the brothers to the town infirmary. Sadly, both were declared dead on arrival.

The authorities confirmed that the two were working on the canopy lights when the accident happened. The live wire that caused the electrocution was exposed and had not been properly insulated.

Authorities shared that discussions are already underway between the victims’ family and the owner of the eatery. Since they are relatives, both parties are hoping to reach a peaceful settlement.

The incident shows the dangers of working with electricity without proper safety tools and training. Exposed wires are dangerous and can lead to more casualties if safety is not observed.

The public is advised to call professionals when dealing with electrical problems and to ensure that all wires and connections are safely handled and properly covered.
