On Tuesday, Chiz Escudero speaks about the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Senate President Chiz Escudero says the delayed impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte neither favors nor prejudices either side.
Vice President Sara Duterte is supposed to undergo impeachment proceedings on June 2, but it was moved to June 11. However, in a previous article, Senate President Chiz Escudero stressed that before the 19th Congress adjourns, there will be no trial as they are to focus on passing significant bills.

The impeachment trial will accordingly be up to the 20th Congress.
The delay in the impeachment trial proceedings against the vice president sparked different reactions and raised questions. Senator Risa Hontiveros discussed the impeachment trial delay during her privilege speech, however, the Senate chief, instead of listening, left his seat and only returned when the female senator was finished.
Hontiveros underscored, “We owe it to the Filipino people to convene as an impeachment court and begin the proceedings at the soonest possible time.”
On Tuesday, Escudero spoke again about the delay, and according to him, this did not favor any side. The only difference was that they had to focus on their primary responsibilities, which were to pass bills before the 19th Congress ended.
“‘Yung sinasabi nilang delay, walang nadagdag, walang nabawas kanino man. Sa prosecutor man o sa panig ni Vice President Sara noong inaatras, iniurong mula June 3, June 2 , papuntang June 11. Wala namang nadagdag o nabawas, ang pagkakaiba lamang, nabigyan kami ng panahon na asikasuhin ‘yong pangunahin naming trabaho na magpasa ng makabuluhang batas bago matapos nang tuluyan ang 19th Congress,” Escudero said.
He maintained the supremacy of the plenary on the matter.
Meanwhile, the six major allegations in the impeachment trial are:
- Conspiracy to Assassinate President Marcos, First Lady, and Speaker Romualdez
- Malversation of P612.5 Million in Confidential Funds
- Bribery and Corruption in DepEd
- Unexplained Wealth and Failure to Disclose Assets
- Involvement in Extrajudicial Killings (Davao Death Squad)
- Destabilization, Insurrection, and Public Disorder
