Following Marcos Jr.’s Appointment, New PNP Chief Nicolas Torre III Assumes Post

New PNP chief Nicolas Torre III vowed that the national police will be worthy of the trust of the people under his lead.

Five (5) police generals were eyed ready to take the helm of the Philippine National Police. Previously, Malacañang confirmed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos has chosen Nicolas Torre III to be the next chief of the national police.

To recall, Torre has handled several huge cases including the search pursuit and the arrest of Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder and leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. He was also the lead implementer in the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte last March 11.

However, Duterte’s arrest has divided the nation. Then chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group or CIDG Nicolas Torre III was heavily-criticized over the arrest of the former President.

Following the arrest, Torre was one of the officials who were promoted. Pres. Bongbong Marcos who was also blamed for an alleged “betrayal” over the arrest of Duterte led the promotion of the police generals.

Recently, following the announcement of Malacañang, countless Filipinos reacted to the appointment of the new PNP chief Nicolas Torre III. He succeeds outgoing PNP chief Rommel Francisco Marbil whose extension of term was set to expire on July.

New PNP chief Nicolas Torre III has taken the command of the national police force in a ceremony held in Camp Crame, Quezon City. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, at the event, the new Chief of the national police committed to boosting police visibility.

“We will be present. Makikita niyo kami sa lansangan, sa komunidad, sa palengke, at sa bawat lugar na kinakailangan ng aming presensya para magbigay ng kapanatagan ng kalooban,” Torre expressed.

Based on the report, Torre also vowed that he will mandate the nationwide implementation of the 3-minute police response program. He first implemented the program when he was the director of the Quezon City Police District.

“Sa ilalim ng aking pamumuno, ang batas ay patas, ang serbisyo ay mabilis, at ang kapulisyahan ay karapat-dapat ng inyong tiwala,” the new PNP Chief vowed.

According to Torre, under his lead, the police will be rewarded based on merits. He stressed that “pogi points” will not work. He also said that only the most competent will be trusted with positions.

The son of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who is currently in The Hague, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte, has criticized the appointment of Police Gen. Nicolas Torre III as the PNP chief.
