Sara Duterte Describes Impeachment as ‘Crucifixion & Bloodbath’

VP Sara Duterte Blasts Impeachment as Personal Persecution

SARA DUTERTE – VP Sara Duterte slammed her critics, saying the impeachment is rooted in politics, not in any wrongdoing on her part.

Vice President Sara Duterte strongly criticized the impeachment proceedings against her, likening the process to a “crucifixion” and describing it as her personal “bloodbath.” Speaking during a press conference in The Hague, Netherlands, on May 31, Duterte expressed dismay over what she views as a misinterpretation of her previous statements by both the public and lawmakers.

“It’s a persecution, some sort of crucifixion. And so when there’s crucifixion, there’s blood. So it’s a bloodbath—my bloodbath,” she said, emphasizing that her impeachment is politically motivated rather than based on misconduct.

Duterte came under fire earlier for saying she welcomed the impeachment trial because she wanted a “bloodbath,” a comment that drew criticism from lawmakers, including Iloilo 3rd District Representative Lorenz Defensor, who called it a “terrible example to the youth.” Responding to the backlash, Duterte explained that her statement was metaphorical and meant to highlight the gravity of the political pressure she faces.

“I’m just sad that many people refuse to understand the context wherein I give my statements,” she added.

“I think many misunderstood the word ‘bloodbath.’ Many did not want to understand, refused to understand what it means. We have always said that the impeachment is a political persecution. It is the administration going after me, after I resigned from the Cabinet,” she said. Duterte believes the proceedings are a response to her decision to resign from the Cabinet and represent a coordinated effort by the current administration to undermine her.

The media briefing took place alongside a rally outside the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, where former President Rodrigo Duterte remains in custody under the International Criminal Court. Senators Robin Padilla and Imee Marcos were also present, expressing support for the former president.

The Senate is set to receive the Articles of Impeachment on June 11, just two days before the 19th Congress is scheduled to adjourn. The original submission date was moved from June 2 to make way for other legislative priorities, as announced by Senate President Chiz Escudero.

Although she doubts the trial will proceed due to time limitations, Duterte said her legal team continues to prepare for any outcome.
