PAGASA Says Habagat and Frontal System Over Parts of the Country

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE—The state weather bureau reported that habagat and the frontal system will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Saturday (May 31, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The southwest monsoon and the frontal system will affect the country’s weather conditions.

PAGASA reported that the southwest monsoon and the frontal system will bring cloudy to rainy skies across Luzon.

Monsoon rains are expected over Ilocos Region, Apayao, Abra, Zambales, and Bataan. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience cloudy weather conditions with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

The frontal system will bring similar weather conditions over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

“Recent weather analysis over the past several days has shown the persistence of low-level southwesterly winds over the western section of Luzon and the Frontal System over Extreme Northern Luzon,” PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando said.

Habagat will bring heavy rainfall over some parts of Luzon, particularly Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Zambales, Cagayan, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Bataan, Apayao, and Abra.

“With the weakening of the Easterlies, these developments indicate the beginning of the Southwest Monsoon or “habagat” in the Philippines—one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season,” Pagasa said.

The weather agency has advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the coastal water condition throughout the country will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA
