Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero Speaks on VP Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial Proceedings
SARA DUTERTE – The proceedings for the impeachment trial of the Vice President is moved from June 2 to 11.
Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero previously said there is a higher level of preparation for Duterte’s impeachment trial. The House of Representatives impeached the Vice President last February 5.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is surrounded by issues and accusations including the controversial spending of the OVP and the Department of Education’s Confidential Funds. The House has conducted several hearings on the matter before the Vice President was impeached.
Amid the accusations that his administration wants her removed from office, Pres. Bongbong Marcos stressed that he does not want the impeachment of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He stressed that it is the Senate who will decide on it.

The feud between Marcos Jr. and Duterte is no secret to the Filipino people. Amid the ongoing conflict between the two (2) political clans, Malacañang previously maintained that the President will not interfere with the impeachment trial proceedings.

The Senate has initially set the presentation of the articles of impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte on June 2. The following day, the impeachment court is set to convene. However, recently, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero announced the changes on the schedule for the impeachment proceedings of the Vice President.

Based on a report on GMA News, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said that the presentation of the articles of impeachment regarding the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be moved from June 2 to June 11. According to the Senate Chief, the 19th Congress will adjourn sine die on June 14 and the two (2) Houses still have several items to pass.
Escudero stressed that there are only six (6) session days left before the sine die adjournment. Here are the measures that the Senate and the House still have to pass by June 14:

- E-Governance Act
- Open Access in Data Transmission (Konektadong Pinoy)
- Rationalization of the Mining Fiscal Regime
- Amendments to the Universal Health Care Act
- Virology Institute of the Philippines
- Government Optimization Act
- Amendments to the Right-of-Way Act
- Setting the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK)
- Judicial Fiscal Autonomy
- Denatured Alcohol Tax
- Anti-POGO Act
Based on the report, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero also stressed that the Commission on Appointments still have to review the appointments of 277 officials from the armed forces, three (3) cabinet secretaries, 39 foreign service officials, and four (4) officials of constitutional commissions.
