Pres. Bongbong Marcos Chooses Police Major General Nicolas Torre III to be Next PNP Chief
NICOLAS TORRE III – Malacañang confirmed the pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos to be the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Even before Pres. Bongbong Marcos has ordered his Cabinet secretaries to make a courtesy resignation for the recalibration of the administration, PNP chief Rommel Marbil is already to set to retire. It was delayed after the President extended his service until July 2025.

Department of Interior and Local Government or DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla previously claimed that Marcos Jr. has already chosen the next PNP chief. According to the Interior Secretary, Pres. Bongbong Marcos chose an “excellent, very qualified, very dynamic” person to be the next PNP chief.
Remulla refused to name the next PNP chief saying that it should come from the President. Previously, there were five (5) individuals cited by PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño as qualified to lead the national police.

According to PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño, the following are qualified to be the next chief of the national police:
- Lieutenant General Robert Rodriguez, the deputy chief for operations of the PNP
- Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., the deputy chief for administration of the PNP
- Lieutenant General Edgar Alan Okubo, the chief of the directorial staff of the PNP
- Police Major General Nicolas Torre III, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group
- Police Major General Anthony Aberin, chief of National Capital Region Police Office

Recently, Malacañang announced the pick of Pres. Bongbong Marcos as the new PNP chief. Based on a report on GMA News, the Palace announced that Marcos Jr. chose PMGen. Nicolas Torre III.

Based on the report, Police Major Gen. Nicolas Torre III has led the Western Samar Provincial Police Office, Quezon City Police District, Batangas City Police Station, Davao region police, and Mabalacat police station. He has also led high-profile cases including the arrest of Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
A former chief of the CIDG, Torre was also instrumental in the implementation of the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Undeniably, it was not only Marcos Jr. and the Malacañang who earned criticisms over Duterte’s arrest but as well as several officials of the government including Torre.
Amid his recent promotion, former CIDG chief Nicolas Torre III is facing illegal detention charges over an alleged “Photocopied” Red Notice.
