Arnie Teves Arrested, To Be Deported By Timor-Leste Government

After the arrest of Arnie Teves, he will be deported from Timor-Leste.

The government of Timor-Leste confirmed that expelled lawmaker Arnie Teves will be deported to the Philippines.

In a previous article, Arnie Teves was arrested in Timor-Leste. The son of former Negros Oriental Cong. Arnie Teves, Axl Teves claimed that he was arrested in their residence in Dili, Timor-Leste, without a warrant of arrest. The authorities just accordingly arrived and took his father.

In a 10-second video, Arnolfo was forced out of his residence by individuals believed to be Timor-Leste’s police and immigration officers. Axl Teves said, “They just picked him up without documents, without warrants or any form of legal documents. They just came in forcefully, took him out forcefully.”

Axl pointed out the Timor-Leste Court’s extradition grant, hence their shock at the arrest they believed to be illegal. They have already called the attention of the United Nations to the alleged unlawful arrest.

On May 28, the Timor-Leste government stated that his presence “represents a serious and unacceptable situation” and is a “disruptive factor in bilateral relations” between Timor-Leste and the Philippines. It added that the perception of their country as a “refuge for individuals fleeing international justice undermines the integrity of our borders and our shared efforts to combat transnational crime.”

The Timor Leste government decided to deport the expelled lawmaker effective immediately, an administrative move by the Ministry of Interior. This is due to a lack of proper legal authorization after his passport was canceled.

They also cited the crimes he’s involved in the Philippines, and apart from his deportation, he will also be banned from entering Timor-Leste for 10 years.

upon his return, Teves will face multiple charges related to the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and other allegations pointing him as mastermind of other killings in Negros Oriental.

He is also to face the following serious charges:

  • Financing terrorism under the Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act.
  • A separate murder warrant linked to three deaths in Negros Oriental in 2019.
