The first mpox case in Iloilo City has been logged.
MPOX IN ILOILO – On Wednesday, the first case of monkeypox, also known as mpox, was confirmed according to the City Health Office (CHO).
Monkeypox is a viral disease, and in a previous article, dated November 2024, four cases were confirmed by DOH-CALABARZON. Recently, on May 28, Iloilo City confirmed its first case of mpox. According to the City Health Office (CHO), four others who were suspected to have been infected are currently under close observation.

Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Roland Jay Fortuna shared that these individuals have been identified and are now in isolation and receiving appropriate medical care. According to reports, their conditions are now stable.
The patient confirmed with an infection that tested positive on May 27 and had no history of travel to other areas. Authorities are now investigating whether this was a case of local transmission.
“Since we now have one confirmed case, it is important to observe proper hygiene, wash hands frequently with soap, and use alcohol-based sanitizers,” said CHO head Dr. Mary Ann Diaz.
Dr. Diaz advised the public to avoid crowded places to minimize the chance of having skin-to-skin contact with other people.
As of this writing, there is no evidence of widespread community transmission. The CHO has declined to release further information about the person to protect patient confidentiality.
