Senate Preparing for Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
SARA DUTERTE – The impeachment court against the Vice President is set to convene on June 3 while she’s in The Hague, Netherlands.
Recently, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero said the Senate is exerting a higher level of preparation for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Duterte. The Vice President was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5 amid allegations over the Confidential Funds use of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education when she was the DepEd secretary.
Vice Pres. Duterte previously claimed that she is ready whether she will be acquitted or found guilty in the impeachment trial. According to her, she is “at peace” regardless of the outcome of the trial.
On the other side, the lawyers of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are “more than confident” that they will win the impeachment trial. For the Vice President, her trust lies on the lawyers that will be defending her. Previously, it was reported that the Vice President is not required to personally appear at the trial but a lawmaker claimed that her presence will make a difference.
Amid incoming impeachment trial against the Vice President, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is detained in The Hague, Netherlands. He is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the war on drugs of his administration.
Vice Pres. Duterte previously flew to The Hague for her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. She just returned to the Philippines in April and fervently campaigned for the PDP-Laban bets of her father after meeting with her lawyers for her impeachment trial.
Based on a report on GMA News, the articles of impeachment against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is scheduled to be read in the Senate on June 2. After it, on June 3, the impeachment court will convene. However, by those times, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will be in The Hague, Netherlands.
Vice Pres. Duterte is set to fly to Doha, Qatar and meet the Filipino community abroad on May 27. Based on the report, afterwards, she is heading to The Netherlands wherein she has scheduled visits to former Pres. Duterte on May 30 and again on June 2 and 3.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously said that she promised her parents that she will spend her birthday with them. The Vice President is set to turn 47 this May 31.
Amid the incoming impeachment trial against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, reelected Senator Bato dela Rosa is confident that Vice Pres. Duterte will be acquitted. He claimed that more than nine (9) senators are allegedly on their side now. He even claimed that non-allies are allegedly turning on their side.
