Robin Padilla Dines W/ Duterte — Or at Least His Cardboard Double

ROBIN PADILLA – Senator Robin Padilla’s lighthearted social media stunt — sharing a meal with a standee — drew mixed reactions but showcased his continued loyalty to Duterte.

Robin Padilla stirred online chatter after he humorously shared a “breakfast meeting” with former President Rodrigo Duterte — though not in the way most people imagined. Instead of dining with Duterte himself, Padilla posed beside a cardboard cutout of the former leader during breakfast.

On Wednesday, May 21, Padilla took to Facebook to post several photos from The Hague, Netherlands, where he was seen having breakfast with the life-sized standee seated next to him.

In a playful caption, the senator wrote, “Good vibes lang. Breakfast meeting kasama ang chairman ng Partido demokratiko ng Pilipinas,” referring to Duterte. The post quickly gained traction, with social media users reacting with amusement, while others praised Padilla’s continued show of support for his political ally.

To recall, Duterte is currently being held at Scheveningen Prison in The Hague, facing charges of crimes against humanity. These stem from alleged extrajudicial killings linked to his controversial anti-drug campaign during his time as president. He was apprehended in the Philippines on March 11 under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

While the breakfast companion was merely a cardboard likeness, the gesture was a clear expression of Padilla’s steadfast allegiance to Duterte. The post soon went viral, drawing widespread engagement — a reflection of the ongoing public interest in Duterte’s legal battle and legacy.

Amid the gravity of the issue, Padilla opted for a lighthearted approach, blending political symbolism with humor — a signature trait he’s known for, even in the face of controversy.
