Charo Santos recalled the first TV appearance she had
Veteran actress Charo Santos revealed why she almost cancelled her first television appearance.
Charo is one of the most respected actresses in the Philippine entertainment industry. Her acting projects proved her versatility and caliber in portraying different roles.
Aside from being an actress, Charo also helped a lot of younger stars of ABS-CBN, especially when she became a television executive.

Before reaching the status she has now in the entertainment industry, Charo Santos also had a humble beginning. In a recent Instagram post, the veteran actress shared that her first-ever TV stint was in the 1970s.
“In the ’70s my mom and I traveled all the way from Calapan, Oriental Mindoro to Manila. Hanggang nakarating kami ng studios ng channel 13,” the veteran actress said.
She was invited by the late Rikki Jimenez, the one who discovered her, to walk for the show Seeing Stars with Joe Quirino.
When she entered the dressing room, Charo admitted that she felt overwhelmed by what she saw. Her self-doubt arose because of the models inside the room.
“Pagdating ko sa studio, pasok ako ng dressing room at nakita ko na ang mga kasama ko ay mga city girls, mga models na sanay na sanay na, mga Inglesera. Naku itong probinsyanang ito biglang na-insecure. Kinabahan ako. I felt so out of place na ayaw ko ng gawin,” the veteran actress shared.

Seeing the hesitation that she had, Rikki approached Charo’s mother. The actress really broke down and cried. Rikki, quite pissed, told her mother that they traveled from Calapan just for her to cry.
Then, Charo mentioned that two models came up to her and gave her words of encouragement. They told her that she would just walk and it would be okay.
With what she heard from the models, Charo Santos decided to push through. “And you know what because of that act of kindness it changed everything. Huminga ako ng malalim, pinunasan ko ang luha ko, and with all confidence walked down the ramp,” she said.
The actress ended her storytelling by saying that life has challenges but just continue to walk.
