Big-Time Oil Price Hike to Take Effect on Tuesday (May 20, 2025)

Big-Time Oil Price Hike Set for May 20, 2025, After Two Weeks of Rollbacks

FUEL PRICE UPDATE – A big-time oil price hike is set to take effect this week after two consecutive week of lower fuel prices.

Starting Tuesday (May 20, 2025), oil companies will raise pump prices again. Filipino motorists and commuters should prepare for another increase in expenses as fuel costs rise across the board.

Starting early Tuesday morning, oil companies like Shell, Seaoil, and Petro Gazz will apply a P1.70 per liter hike in diesel prices, and a P1.20 per liter hike for gasoline. Shell and Seaoil will also raise kerosene prices by P1.20 per liter.

Cleanfuel will implement the same price increases later in the afternoon, except for kerosene, which they do not sell. Other fuel providers are expected to follow but have yet to announce their adjustments.

The increase is being blamed on several global developments. Ongoing instability in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil trade, and economic shifts between the U.S. and China have all played a part.

Oil-producing nations are also forecasting weaker production in 2025, which adds more pressure to global supply and prices.

According to data from the Department of Energy, gasoline has increased by P4 per liter since the start of the year, while diesel has gone up by P3.80. Kerosene, however, has dropped by P2.05 per liter during the same period.

Public transport drivers are among those hit hardest. With schools on break and fewer passengers on the road, many jeepney and taxi drivers are finding it difficult to earn enough each day.

Increasing fuel prices mean that most of their income goes straight to the pump, leaving them with little to take home.

As fuel price increases, many Filipinos are once again feeling the squeeze in their daily budget.
