COMELEC Urges Party-List Groups To Use Name in Line w/ Platforms

Chairman of COMELEC Speaks on Party-List Groups with Names Not Reflecting their Advocacies

COMELEC – The Commission on Elections is urging the party-list groups to use names that are in line with their principles and platforms.

In the recent 2025 local and national elections, 156 party-list groups vied for a seat in the House of Representatives. Most of them have fervently campaigned during the campaign period. On Election Day, millions of Filipinos exercised their right to vote.

Some of the party-list groups are named after popular people in politics and other fields like the PBBM, the Duterte Youth, and the 1PACMAN. There are also party-list groups that are named after government programs like the 4Ps.

Some of the most popular party-list groups are named after known TV shows and telenovelas. These party-lists include the Ang Probinsyano, Batang Quiapo, and the Tutok To Win. Recently, COMELEC has made a verdict with regards to party-list names.

Based on a report on GMA News, COMELEC chairman George Erwin Garcia announced the decision of the poll body to ban names for party-list groups that are after TV shows, telenovelas, and government programs. They won’t be allowed by the poll body to bear the same name in the next accreditation process.

“Hindi na kami papayag sa susunod na accreditation process na gagamit sila ng mga sikat na telenovela na pangalan. Hindi kami papayag na gagamit sila ng mga pangalan ng ayuda. Hindi na po tama ‘yon,” the COMELEC chairman said.

According to COMELEC chairman George Garcia, the names of the party-list groups must reflect their principles and advocacies. Those party-list groups bearing names that were inspired after TV shows and government programs must change their names if they want to be accredited in the next accreditation period.

“Sa mga susunod we will no longer allow. If they want accreditation, change the names of their party in accordance with their principles, kung ano ang kanilang plataporma,” he expressed.
