PAGASA Says ITCZ and Easterlies to Affect PH Weather Condition

PAGASA LATEST UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that the intertropical convergence zone and easterlies will bring rains over parts of the country.

On Friday (May 16, 2025), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Two weather systems will bring rains over parts of the country.

PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda reported that the Intertropical Convergence Zone will be affecting Mindanao while the easterlies will affect the rest of the country.

Rainy weather is still expected in the entire Mindanao, in Palawan, and parts of Visayas due to the intertropical convergence zone,” Castañeda said

The ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Palawan.

The easterlies will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

The weather agency has warned the public for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

Castañeda said that no low-pressure area is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

“Because the ITCZ is active in parts of Mindanao, we are not ruling out the possibility of a circulation or a low-pressure area forming in the eastern part of Mindanao,” she said.

The coastal water conditions over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be slight to moderate, according to PAGASA. No gale warning was raised over any of the country’s seaboard.
