Malacañang Says Bongbong Marcos Won’t Meddle w/ Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial

Statement of Malacañang on Impeachment Trial of VP Sara Duterte

Malacañang claimed that President Bongbong Marcos will not meddle with the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

Previously, amid the arrest and detention of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero assured that the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte will push through. The Senate Chief proposed July 30 as the start of her impeachment trial.

Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero allowed Sen. Koko Pimentel to help draft the rules for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. He refused several calls to start the trial right away citing that the Senate follows an approved legislative calendar and the session was on break then.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stayed in The Hague, Netherlands for more than three (3) weeks for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It was in the first week of April when she returned to the country.

Previously, Vice Pres. Duterte said that her legal team for her impeachment trial is already ready even before the unexpected arrest of former Pres. Duterte last March 11. Upon her return to the country, she met with her lawyers.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously claimed that her lawyers are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial. According to her, her confidence lies on the lawyers who are handling her impeachment case.

Previously, Malacañang said the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Duterte is in the hands of the Senate and not Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The President, despite his previous pronouncements, is accused of being the one behind the impeachment of Duterte who was impeached by the House of Representatives last February 5.

Malacañang Claire Castro

Recently, Malacañang spoke anew on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Palace press undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Pres. Bongbong Marcos will not meddle with the impeachment trial of the Vice President.

“‘Yang usapin na ‘yan ay nasa Senado na at hindi makikialam ang Pangulo kung ano ang magaganap dyan. Pero syempre ang hiling natin lahat ay gampanan ng mga senador ang kanilang mga obligasyon, hindi lang para sa isang tao kundi obligasyon sa bayan at sa kababayan natin,” Castro said.

Based on the report, the Malacañang press official further claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos will not have a hand on the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte regardless of who won as congressman or senator in the recent elections.

“Kung sino siguro ang dapat managot, dapat managot. Kung sino ‘yung dapat ma-acquit ay dapat ma-acquit. Basta ang pangulo ay para sa batas. Kung ano ‘yung naaayon sa batas, ‘yun ang dapat sundin,” the Malacañang official said.

Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte said she is “at peace” whatever will be the result of the impeachment trial.
