Silay City Shooting On Election Day 2025: Alleged Suspect Surrenders

The alleged suspect behind the Silay City shooting surrendered to the authorities.

SILAY CITY SHOOTING – On Election Day 2025, two were killed and several were injured in a shooting incident, and the alleged suspect behind it has surrendered.

Early in the morning of Election Day 2025 in Silay City, Negros Occidental, a deadly shooting disrupted the community that left several supporters of Silay Mayor Joedith Gallego wounded and two others killed.

The shooting incident in Silay occurred in Ipil-Ipil Street, Barangay Mambulac, Silay City. The supporters of the mayor seeking reelection were attacked at around 7 am while they were gathered at a local campaign area.

Silay City Police Chief Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca identified the two people killed, namely Ronnie Piedad and Albert Salimbot. Jayson Belleza, Roel Espinosa, Joey Pomares, Ric Ortillano, Wilfredo Cuello, Glenn Gutierez, and Jinrey Guitsi were injured, and one of them is in critical condition at a hospital.

The victims were employees of the Silay City local government, and they were in the area due to alleged vote buying.

The barangay captain of Lantad is being pointed out as the principal gunman in the incident. One of the injured victims claimed that Benedicto was also the driver of a white van, which served as their getaway vehicle.

As per the latest, the barangay captain has already surrendered to the authorities. This was confirmed by Team Asenso Silay’s legal counsel, Atty. Jose Edward Davila. The suspect surrendered on Monday afternoon. Along with his surrender, he also denied what he was accused of.

He is even willing to undergo a paraffin test, and with a search warrant, the residents of the house where other alleged suspects went into hiding expressed that they would be willing to coordinate with the investigation.
