Statement of Malacañang on Impeachment Complaint Attempted To Be Filed vs. Pres. Bongbong Marcos

MALACAÑANG – The Palace reacted to the impeachment complaint attempted to be filed against President Bongbong Marcos.

Recently, amid the 2025 Elections drawing near, an impeachment complaint was attempted to be filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos by Duterte Youth party-list chairperson Ronald Cardema and his wife, former Duterte Youth party-list Rep. Ducielle Marie Marie.

The Cardema couple went to the House of Representatives to file the impeachment complaint versus Marcos Jr. Their move that seek to remove the President from office is due to the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He was arrested last March 11 due to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.

On the same day of Duterte’s arrest, the former President was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai. He is now under the custody of the ICC for more than a month already. He is faced with an allegation of crimes against humanity.

Amid the criticisms against the President and the government, Malacañang previously defended Pres. Bongbong Marcos saying that the government only did its job over Duterte’s arrest. The Palace and the Chief Executive emphasized that the action of the government was due to its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

On the impeachment complaint attempted to be filed against Marcos Jr. over Duterte’s arrest, it was not received by the Office of the Secretary General. The office denied accepting the complaint due to the absence of House Secretary General Reginald Velasco at the time the complainant went to the lower chamber.

Recently, Malacañang reacted to the impeachment complaint attempted to be filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a report on PhilStar, Palace press officer Atty. Claire Castro stressed that it is the complainants’ right but they believe that it is allegedly “baseless”.

“Karapatan po nila kung nais po nilang magsampa. Pero inuulit po natin, ang complaint na ‘to, ay sa ating pagtingin ay walang pinanghuhugutan,” the Malacañang press officer said.

Based on the report, Atty. Claire Castro stressed that the Marcos administration followed the law and acted on its commitment with the Interpol. The Malacañang official also expressed an encouragement to the party-list to create more laws.

“Kung mayroon mang sariling interes patungkol dito, nanaisin pa ba nila na hindi sundin ang batas, hindi ipagpatuloy ang commitment or talikuran ang commitment sa Interpol para sa mga taong inaakusahan ng crimes against humanity? So muli, maliban po sa ginagawa po ng Duterte Youth Partylist patungkol po dito, mas maganda rin po bilang mambabatas, makagawa sila ng mas maraming batas,” she said.

Previously, House Speaker Martin Romualdez was also asked about the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos, his cousin and ally in politics.
