Megastar and OPM icon Sharon Cuneta has this memory to share about late actors Ricky Davao and Rudy Fernandez.
Veteran actor Ricky Davao passed away at the age of 63 due to complications related to cancer. His daughter, Ara Davao, confirmed his death, and it broke many hearts. He died, but his “remarkable body of work and award-winning performances” will live forever.
During the final night of his wake at Heritage Park in Taguig City, stars gathered and remembered their fond memories with him. A lot of celebrities went to him and paid their respects. ABS-CBN Corporation Chairman Mark Lopez, COO for Broadcast Cory Vidanes, talent manager Annabelle Rama, Jayda, Jessa, Dingdong Avanzado, and Claudine Barretto were also there.
Among those who mourned was Megastar Sharon Cuneta, who accordingly had a deep and close relationship with the late actor. They have worked on several projects, and their friendship has lasted for decades.
Kung Aagawin Mo Ang Lahat Sa Akin was the first movie where they worked together, followed by Kahit Konting Pagtingin. They also worked together in Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (KAPP), where she was the chairperson and Rudy Fernandez was the president.
She even shared this story about him, “Kasama namin si Ricky, kakain kami nun sabay-sabay. Tapos mag-o-offer siyang magbayad, ‘Ako na, ako na.’ Kami naman, ‘Wag na, Pare.’ Tapos, ‘Sige na nga.’ So, papayagan ni Daboy. Pagdating nung waiter, binigay yung card niya, tapos biglang babalik yung waiter, ‘Sir, di po namin tinatanggap ito.’ Ako naman, ‘Ha? Ano bang card ito?’ Pagkita ko, ID pala, niloloko niya kami.”
The Megastar admitted that it had been a long time since she had seen Davao and reconnected. With how busy she was and the nature of their work, it was hard for them to find the time to do it.
According to her, she was made aware of Ricky’s illness when she attended the wake of Pilitia Corrales.
“Napakabuti na kaibigan ni Ricky at napakasayang kasama. Napakagaling na artists. Seryoso, laging kontrabida. Pero sa totoong buhay, isa sa pinakamabait at pinakamasayang kasama,” she said and added that he is a great loss in the entertainment industry.
