Bernard Palanca Reflects on His Drug Addiction
BERNARD PALANCA – Actor Bernard Palanca openly expressed his deep regret over falling into drug addiction during the peak of his career.
In an emotional interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda this Thursday, May 8, Bernard Palanca opened up about his difficult experience with drug addiction. Joined by fellow Slay actor Chuckie Dreyfus, Bernard admitted his deep regret over the decision to try illegal substances during the height of his fame.
Bernard rose to stardom in the 1990s to early 2000s as one of the most popular matinee idols. He was also a member of the well-known group The Hunks, alongside Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Diether Ocampo, and Carlos Agassi. But behind the glamour and success, Bernard went through a dark period as he fell into substance abuse.

“If it’s possible to go back, I would definitely go back to the very first day that I tried doing something. Because I would go back and tell myself, I wouldn’t do it all because that was the start, e.”
The actor’s remorse over his choices is evident. He admitted that his downward spiral began with that first attempt. Fortunately, he did not lose all hope—he made the decision to enter rehab and work toward recovery.
“When that happened, that caused already the rest of the way. If I didn’t take the first puff as they say back then, I don’t think my life would have gone in that direction at all.”

Now, Bernard has a renewed appreciation for life and family. He says he has matured significantly after going through such a challenging ordeal. His story serves as proof that recovery and change are possible.
He remains active on television and is a responsible father to his two sons from previous relationships with Meryll Soriano and Jerika Ejercito.
A reminder from Bernard: one wrong decision can change the course of your life—but it’s never too late to turn things around.
