Statement of House Speaker Martin Romualdez on the Death of Pope Francis

House Speaker Martin Romualdez recalled the visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines after the Typhoon Yolanda hit the country.

The death of Pope Francis left countless Roman Catholic Church members saddened but celebrating the life that the Roman Pontiff has lived. He is known as a very inclusive Pope who reached out to the poor. He died on Monday shortly after the Angelus prayer.

Pope Francis is undeniably one of the most loved Roman Pontiff of the Filipinos. He has visited the Philippines after the wrath of Typhoon Yolanda and it brought hope to countless people. He came to the country in 2015 and stayed here from January 15 to 19.

Several known personalities paid tribute to Pope Francis. Recently, House Speaker Martin Romualdez recalled the visit of the Roman Pontiff after Typhoon Yolanda left the Philippines in a devastating state.

House Speaker Martin Romualdez represents Leyte where Tacloban which is greatly hit by Typhoon Yolanda is located. On social media, he penned a tribute for the Pope whom he described as “more than the leader of the Catholic church”.

The House Speaker further described the Pope as a “source of strength, comfort, and hope”. According to him, he will never forget how the Roman Pontiff came to Tacloban after the Typhoon Yolanda. He stressed that the Pope “stood with us in the rain, and spoke to our pain”.

According to Romualdez, during the visit of the Pope, they felt the embrace of the Father. He stressed that the Pope reminded the people that true faith is lived through service, compassion, and unity. He stressed that the Supreme Pontiff gave voice to the poor and hope to those who are exhausted.
