The family of OPM legend Hajji Alejandro confirmed his passing and asked the public for privacy. Alejandro passed away at 70, and he succumbed to stage 4 colon cancer on Monday, April 21.

The OPM icon was known for hits like “Nakapagtataka” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika.” He’d been receiving treatments after undergoing surgery in February. According to his partner, Alynna, he had faced complications during recovery.

His death has brought extreme sadness to the local music industry. Several artists paid tributes to him, and here are some:

Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid expressed that he was an amazing human being who was friendly, always joking around, kind, accommodating, and a supreme professional when it came to his passion.

OPM hitmaker Dingdong Avanzado said that he wasn’t just a teammate; he was also a mentor and a dear friend. He appreciated all the wonderful moments they had, whether it’d be playing basketball, golf, or cards. Above all, he appreciated the life lessons and wisdom he shared with him.

“Tito Hajji, Aljohn and I were just talking about our fun time in Korea… Rest ka na, Tito. Thank you po,” actress-singer Manilyn Reynes said.

Concert King Martin Nievera was still in disbelief over this sad news. He accordingly learned so much from this man, who was a musical icon, kind, supportive, humble, and fun to be with.

Meanwhile, the Alejandro family has not yet released details on memorial services or tributes. They will, however, make further announcements in the coming days. The late legendary singer was known as the “Kilabot ng mga Kolehiyala.”
