Woman Swims 1.8 KM Alone to Reach Beach Resort, Rescued by Authorities

A 23-year-old woman was safely rescued by the Coast Guard after swimming alone across the Davao Gulf, trying to reach a popular beach resort.

On Black Saturday, April 19, 2025, a woman reportedly swims a distance of approximately 1.8 kilometers of open water.

The woman, a resident of Barangay Panyalom in Paquibato, Davao City, reportedly started her swim from Coaco Beach Resort located in Barangay Vicente Hizon. Her goal was to reach Paradise Beach Resort in Samal, but the journey proved to be more dangerous than expected.

The waters she swam through were about 100 feet deep, making the attempt risky, especially without proper safety gear or assistance.

Luckily, personnel from the Coast Guard Station Island Garden City of Samal (CGS-IGACOS) were able to rescue her before anything serious happened. After being brought safely to the Philippine Coast Guard substation, she shared that she simply wanted to reach Paradise Beach Resort.

It seems the swim was not due to an emergency, but a personal decision, which could have ended in tragedy if help hadn’t arrived in time.

The Coast Guard reminded the public to avoid swimming long distances, especially alone, as it can be extremely dangerous. While the woman was fortunate to have survived the ordeal, not everyone in similar situations gets the same chance.

The quick response of the Coast Guard made a big difference that day.
