Prosecution Team of Duterte ICC Case Determined To Move Case To Trial

DUTERTE ICC CASE – The International Criminal Court said that over 8,500 pages of written evidence will be presented against the former President.

Amid his detention, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte indirectly reminded the Filipinos to support his PDP Laban candidates in the upcoming May 2025 Midterm Polls. The former President is currently detained in the Hague Penitentiary Institution where he is facing an accusation of crimes against humanity.

The allegations against Duterte are in line with the issue surrounding his administration’s war on drugs. The former Philippine President made his initial appearance before the pre-trial chamber of the ICC last March 15 remotely.

The confirmation of charges against Duterte is set on September 23. Recently, the ICC released the significant dates over the Duterte ICC case prior to the September hearing. Recently, a prosecutor of the foreign court spoke on the pieces of evidence against the former Philippine President.

Based on a report on PhilStar, ICC prosecutor Karim Khan revealed that at least 8,500 pages of written evidence are set to be presented in the Duterte ICC case. The ICC prosecutor also said that the prosecution team is set to present visual and audio evidence as well.

According to Khan, the prosecution team is set to present 16 hours of footage across files and nine photographs. The ICC prosecutor spoke on the items of evidence for the Duterte ICC case in his response to the judges of the pre-trial chamber over the conduct of the confirmation of charges hearing.

Based on the report, Khan stressed that the pieces of evidence cited is only a portion of what will be used during the confirmation of the proceedings on the Duterte ICC case. The materials are still under review according to the ICC prosecutor.

Previously, British-Israeli lawyer Nicholas Kaufman who leads Duterte’s legal team urged the ICC to be stricter on the IDs to be presented by the alleged victims of his client’s drug war. It earned him comments that he is allegedly unaware of the situation in the Philippines.
