CCTV Footage Captures 2 Members of ‘Spider-Man Gang’ Stealing Electrical Wires
Two suspected members of the so-called “Spider-Man gang” were caught stealing electrical wires in Barangay Mayamot.
The group earned its nickname because its members are known for climbing and hanging on wires, much like the comic book character, to steal them and sell the copper inside.
On early Thursday morning (April 9, 2025), barangay authorities caught a 14-year-old boy who was acting as a lookout while the others tried to steal more wires. CCTV footage showed the two suspects running away after a local resident confronted them.
It wasn’t the first time the suspects were involved in wire theft. According to the barangay desk officer, they had already been caught on two separate occasions. Because of this, local officials kept a close watch on the area, believing the suspects would return after cutting the wires earlier.
“Hindi lang po isang beses, dalawang beses, na-timingan. Kaya sinabihan kami ng chairman namin na bantayan mabuti at balik-balikan ‘yung area. Alam namin babalikan kasi pinutol na po nila,” Rolando Antonio, desk officer of Barangay Mayamot said.
The barangay task force quickly responded and managed to catch the young lookout with the help of a tip from a concerned citizen. The barangay said that he and his 21-year-old companion are part of a group that steals wires, strips them for copper, and then sells the metal.
The 14-year-old suspect was turned over to the police. He will undergo a medical check and proper documentation before being transferred to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for further handling.
Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for his older companion, who managed to escape.
The community is now being more alert, and barangay officials continue to monitor the area closely to prevent more incidents of wire theft. The hope is that tighter watch and cooperation from residents will stop these crimes from happening again.
