Kanlon Volcano spewed a massive amount of smoke
Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island had an “explosive eruption” on the morning of April 8, Tuesday and this was caught on video.
Kanlaon is one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines. For the past months, residents of Canlaon City and nearby cities and municipalities have been suffering from the eruption’s effects.
Last December, the eruption happened that left a large area of the southern part of Negros Occidental covered with ashes. In some areas, “lahar” was experienced as it rained after the eruption. The aftermath photos and videos showed the affected areas covered with ashes.

As Kanlaon Volcano continues to spew ashes and smoke, President Bongbong Marcos said in February that a task force, led by the Office of the Civil Defense, would be formed to address the eruption’s effects.
This came after the situation briefing in La Carlota City in Negros Occidental. The task force is expected to conduct measures such as relocating people living within the four to six-kilometer danger zone and the establishment of a permanent evacuation center, This will also initiate livelihood programs for the affected residents.

On Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) posted an update on Kanlaon, based on the article in GMA News Online.
In a social media post, the agency stated, “ATM: Explosive eruption at Kanlaon Volcano ongoing. Details to be released.”
Mariton Bornas, chief of the PHIVOLCS Volcano Monitoring Eruption Prediction Division, stated in an interview that an explosive eruption occurred at 5:51 a.m.
Salta Radio Canlaon was able to capture the moment when the volcano was spewing thick smoke.
In the comment section of this post, many netizens offered prayers for the residents of nearby Kanlaon Volcano. “Smthng huge is coming.. keep safe canlaon and nearby towns and barangays,” a netizen commented.
