Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto, Allies Accused of “Single Mom” Joke Allegedly Turning Into National Issue
VICO SOTTO – The Pasig City Mayor reacted to a congressional candidate’s accusation over the viral “single mom” joke.
Recently, a candidate for congress in Pasig City went viral due to his joke about women solo parents during a caucus meeting. The said Pasig candidate is Atty. Christian “Ian” Sia who joked that single moms who feel lonely may sleep with him once a year.

Sia clarified that his offer is jokingly open for women solo parents who still have their period. His joke drew laughter from the crowd. Later on, he clarified that it is only a joke as he is married.
However, the joke of the Pasig candidate did not sit well with countless netizens on social media. He earned bashing and was called different negative terms including “rude”. He even claimed that he is now a “five star general” online when it comes to being rude.

Pasig candidate Christian Sia apologized over his ‘single mom’ joke. According to him, not he but the uploader of the video must be blamed. He stressed that the uploader of the video did not include the reaction of the people who were allegedly laughing at his joke during the caucus meeting.

Atty. Christian Sia further claimed that his joke was meant to awaken the people and get their attention. According to him, many people have already spoken before him and the people seems to be bored already so he found a way to shock them through the joke to get their attention.
However, recently, the viral Pasig congressional candidate accused Mayor Vico Sotto and his allies for his “single mom” joke drawing flak. According to his camp, their political opponents are allegedly manipulating the issue because the administration cannot respond to the issues that they are throwing at them.
Sia claims the lack of healthcare in Pasig City as well as the alleged failure of Mayor Vico Sotto to build an infrastructure during his term. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Pasig Mayor was asked about his reaction to the accusation against him and his allies.
“Alam naman po siguro ng tao kung ano ang totoo. Tao na po ang magsasabi,” Mayor Vico Sotto said.

According to the Pasig Mayor, what is important is that he remains focus on his job. He stressed that work does not stop because of the campaign period. Based on the report, he was also asked about his name being dragged into the controversy.
“Marami namang nagmemention ng pangalan ko, it doesn’t really matter,” Sotto said.
