Elderly Woman with Disability Mocked by Group of Men in Antipolo, Family Seeks Justice
A group of men who allegedly mocked their grandmother with a disability was reported by a family member.
On the evening of March 31, 2025, an elderly woman with a disability became the subject of public anger after a video of her being mocked by a group of men in Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo, Rizal.
In the video, which has already reached over 16 million views, a man is seen approaching the elderly woman, who is bent over and unaware. He grabs her arms and lifts her repeatedly using his knees while other men in the background laugh.
After the man let her go, the woman walked away, holding her left arm in pain. According to the barangay officials, the men involved are related to the woman, they are cousins of her grandchildren.
The elderly woman has had a mental condition since birth and is known in the area for interacting with the neighborhood kids. While they claimed it was just a form of play they were used to, barangay officials said the actions shown in the video clearly crossed the line.
“‘Yung video na nag-viral sumobra ‘yung pagbibiro. Hindi na natin siya matawag na pagbibiro dahil ‘yung ginawa nila ay nakakasakit na. Hindi kasi makapagsalita ng maayos si lola eh. Hindi rin niya naiintindihan ‘yung nangyayari sa paligid niya,” said Fernan.
One of the woman’s nephews, who grew up under her care, was deeply hurt and angered by the video. He said the mocking behavior was not only disrespectful but also painful to watch, especially knowing that she is mentally challenged and unable to understand what was happening.
The barangay summoned the four men involved just an hour after the video was posted online.
Officials reminded them that what they did is a violation of the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities (RA 9442), which carries penalties including a fine of P50,000 and jail time from six months to two years.
Despite the apology from the men, the nephew is determined to file a formal complaint to ensure they are held accountable.
