Sen. Imee Marcos Pushes Through w/ 2nd Day of Senate Inquiry on Duterte’s Arrest
IMEE MARCOS – The Senator lamented the absence of the cabinet officials on the second day of the Senate investigation on Duterte’s arrest.
The Marcos siblings have different stance on the controversial arrest of former Philippine Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Pres. Bongbong Marcos stressed that the all necessary procedures were followed in the arrest of the former President. According to him, the government only acted on its commitment with the Interpol.

Pres. Marcos and the Philippine government earned countless criticisms following the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. Malacañang defended the President saying he did not commit betrayal as it was the government’s job.
Unexpectedly, the Senator sister of Pres. Marcos does not share the same stand with him on the issue. Sen. Imee Marcos was shocked and wanted to investigate the arrest of former Pres. Duterte.

Sen. Marcos skipped the campaign rallies of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago led by Pres. Bongbong Marcos following the arrest of Duterte. According to Sen. Marcos, it seemed like Duterte has no country of his own when the government surrendered him to the foreign court.

Amid the criticisms that her brother and the Philippine government received following the arrest of former Pres. Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos led the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the investigation of Duterte’s arrest. On its first day of hearing, several government officials and members of the cabinet appeared.
The Senator moved to conduct another day of hearing over the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. However, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin sent the Senate a letter informing them that the cabinet officials will not be attending the second day of the probe.
In the letter, Bersamin stressed that all the matters not covered by the executive privilege have been discussed already in the previous hearing. Malacañang claimed that Sen. Imee Marcos has repeated questions. The Palace advised her to invite law experts as resource persons.

Sen. Imee Marcos pushed through with the second day of the Senate investigation on the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, at the start of the hearing, the Senator lamented the absence of the cabinet officials.
According to Sen. Marcos, she respects the doctrine of the executive privilege. However, according to him, it should not be used as a blanket to avoid the invitation and the questions of the Senate.
“Hidden truths are unspoken lies. Ang katotohonang tinatago ay kasinunggalingan din. At mukhang ganon ang nangyayari ngayon sa pagtatago ng katotohan gamit ang executive privilege at subjudisye, nagmimustulan tuloy may cover-up sa mga nangyayari,” the Senator said.
Based on the report, Sen. Marcos has previously sent a letter to Malacañang asking the Palace to reconsider its previous stand on the absence of the cabinet officials in the probe. However, the Palace maintained its stand.
Amid the issues on the arrest of the former President, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stressed their family’s unity as her father faces the ICC case.
