Former president Rodrigo Duterte turns 80 years old inside the ICC, and VP Sara Duterte asks prayers for her father.
Marking his 80th birthday in detention in the Netherlands on Friday, after the International Criminal Court ordered his arrest, is former president Rodrigo Duterte. Duterte was arrested for crimes against humanity allegedly committed during his administration’s war against drugs.

To recall, it was on March 11 when his chaotic and dramatic arrest happened in Manila’s international airport.
As one of the most unorthodox leaders of the Philippines, it can be recalled that he did several controversial gestures publicly. These included cursing then President Barack Obama and the pope, calling God stupid, and expressing that he would be happy to slaughter 3 million addicts in the country. He also compared his crackdown back then with Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.
While he celebrates his 80th birthday inside the detention center, his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, expressed gratitude to the people who continue to support their family. She is thankful to the Filipinos in the country, the Netherlands, and in other parts of the world who still show their support to them.

“Sa mga kababayan natin sa Pilipinas, The Netherlands at iba’t ibang panig ng mundo— napakalaking bagay para kay Pangulong Duterte ang pagtitipon ninyo para sa kanyang pag-uwi at kaarawan. Maraming salamat at napapagaan nito ang mga hamon na hinaharap niya ngayon,” she said.
She shared that her father is aware that he will be facing the ICC with the people who support him.
The vice president also asked for prayers for her father’s long life and release. Meanwhile, his partner, Honeylet Avanceña with Kitty Duterte, arrived at The Hague, but so far, their efforts to see him have failed.
