Rodrigo Duterte

Duterte was arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) last March 11 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). He just arrived from Hong Kong. The former President was detained at the Villamor Air Base for several hours and was flown to The Hague, Netherlands via Dubai on the same day.

The arrest of Duterte earned the government and the President countless criticisms. After the plane carrying Duterte has left, Pres. Bongbong Marcos spoke to the Filipinos saying that all necessary procedures were followed in the arrest of the former President.

Sen. Marcos skipped the campaign sorties of the Alyansa in Tacloban and Cavite. During the campaign of the alliance at the huge province of Cavite, Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not mention his sister.

Sen. Imee Marcos led a Senate committee investigation on the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Several officials of the government and members of the cabinet of Pres. Bongbong Marcos appeared at the hearing. The probe was following by Sen. Marcos officially leaving the Alyansa.

According to the Senator, the recent actions of the government do not align with the ideals and principles she believe in. She also cited that she was not endorsed when she skipped the campaign sortie, thus, her exit is a clarification.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Imee Marcos believes that Pres. Bongbong Marcos was angered by the probe on the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. According to her, the government initially claimed they will not participate in the probe but it was followed by the citing of several names to attend the hearing.

“Ang dami-dami, nagpapadagdag pa nga sila ng pangalan, nagpadagdag pa nga sila ng upuan, kinapos pa nga tayo ng pagkain,” Marcos said.

However, based on the report, Sen. Marcos claimed she was surprised when Pres. Marcos was angered. She thinks it is probably because the officials had conflicting answers.

“Nagulat naman ako nung nagalit na nga, kasi nga siguro hindi nagkakasundo yung mga sagot, hindi tumutugma.  Hindi ko na kasalanan yun. Malay ko ba kung anong isasagot nila,” the Senator said.

Sen. Imee Marcos claimed she and Pres. Bongbong Marcos have not talked for quite a while now. Earlier, Malacañang denied the rift between the Marcos siblings.
