USGS Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Central Myanmar, March 28, 2025

EARTHQUAKE – The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 7.7 magnitude quake in Central Myanmar today, March 28, 2025.

Quake-recording agencies in the different countries usually jot down several occurrences of ground shaking daily. These earthquakes may vary with regards to their intensity as well as the extend of the damages they bring. One of the quake-recording bureaus around the globe is the United States Geological Survey or the USGS. Recently, the USGS recorded a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Central Myanmar.

According to USGS, the epicenter of the 7.7 magnitude quake was located around 17.2 kilometers from the city of Mandalay, the second largest city in the country. It has a population of around 1.5 million.

The recent 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar caused the people to rush out from buildings. There were reports of damages in infrastructures due to the natural disaster but there are still no final say as to the extent of the impact of the quake. USGS recorded that the quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers or 6.2 miles.

Speaking to Reuters, a officer from the Myanmar Fire Services Department assured that the search operations are now ongoing following the quake that brought infrastructures to the ground. The rescue teams are going around Yangon to check the people affected by the natural disaster as well as the damages it brought.

Videos and photos showing collapsed buildings and their debris scattering on the streets in Myanmar circulated online. Based on the report, people living in Bangkok ran out into the streets as many panicked amid the strong shaking. People from Yangon also rushed into the streets.

While many people are equipped with earthquake safety tips as they are usually discussed in offices and schools and are also available online, the strong shaking has left a lot of employees reportedly frozen out of fear amid the loud shrieks heard when the ground was shaking.
