Statement of Malacañang on Sen. Imee Marcos Leaving Alyansa Backed by Pres. Bongbong Marcos

MALACAÑANG – The Palace denied that there is a rift between President Bongbong Marcos and Senator Imee Marcos.

Countless Filipinos were left in doubts after Sen. Imee Marcos led the Senate committee investigation on the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The transfer of the custody of the former Chief Executive to the International Criminal Court (ICC) gained Pres. Bongbong Marcos a lot of criticisms.

There are Filipinos who believe that Marcos Jr. had the power to stop the arrest of Duterte but he did not use it. According to the President, the Philippine government acted on the arrest of the former President in lieu of its commitment with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).

Pres. Marcos earned “betrayal” accusations over Duterte’s arrest. Malacañang defended Marcos saying that the President did not betray anyone and the government only did its job.

Sen. Imee Marcos claimed that she was shocked by the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. She also said she cannot accept what was done to Duterte. Following the arrest of former Pres. Duterte, Sen. Imee Marcos skipped the campaign rally of the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago led by Pres. Bongbong Marcos.

Malacañang expressed understanding on Sen. Marcos and some Alyansa candidates skipping the campaign rally of the alliance in Tacloban following Duterte’s arrest. According to Sen. Marcos, she wants to enlighten the Filipinos on the issue. She opened an investigation in the Senate regarding the controversial arrest of the former President.

Sen. Marcos believes that there was seemingly no due process in the arrest of former Pres. Duterte. She also called on Sen. Bong Go not to lose hope when it comes to the possibility of bringing back the former President to the country.

Sen. Imee Marcos also skipped the Cavite campaign rally of the Alyansa. At the said campaign sortie, Pres. Bongbong Marcos did not mention Sen. Marcos. It was not clear as to whether or not the Chief Executive intentionally did it.

Recently, Sen. Imee Marcos officially left the Alyansa mentioning that she was not endorsed when she skipped a campaign rally. It left the Filipinos doubting if there is an ongoing rift between the siblings.

Malacañang recently broke its silence on the issue involving Pres. Bongbong Marcos and Sen. Imee Marcos. Based on a report on GMA News, the Palace denied a “rift” between the Marcos siblings. Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro also said that the President is not short-tempered.

“We cannot say that there is a rift, hintayin na lang po natin kung may sasabihin ang Pangulo… sa ugali ng Pangulo, hindi siya pikon…” the press officer of Malacañang said.

After leaving the Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago, Sen. Imee Marcos claimed she will campaign with the local candidates.
