The pupils were quickly transported to the Talisay City Health Office via a barangay vehicle after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting.

Initial investigations revealed that one of the students brought the chocolate bars to school. These chocolates, believed to be imported, were shared among the students. However, it remains unclear whether the chocolates were sold or simply given away by the student who brought them.

The unopened chocolate bars were found with an expiration date of September 17, 2024, upon further inspection indicating that they were already past their safe consumption period.

Dr. Villarosa also clarified that the Department of Education (DepEd) has strict policies regarding food sold in schools. Under these regulations, all food products must be purchased from the school canteen to ensure safety.

Additionally, carbonated and high-sugar beverages are prohibited, and pre-packaged food items must carry the “Sangkap Pinoy” seal to guarantee their nutritional value and safety.

The incident has raised concerns about food safety awareness in schools, prompting authorities to remind parents, students, and school personnel to be cautious about food brought from outside sources.

Health officials continue to monitor the affected students while reinforcing food safety guidelines to prevent similar cases in the future.
