Graduating Student from Nueva Ecija Sells Snacks to Achieve His Dreams
A graduating student from Nueva Ecija works tirelessly to support himself and his family while pursuing his education.
Dondy Regala, a 4th-year BS Criminology student, starts his day not just with schoolbooks but also with two baskets filled with snacks. Before heading to class, he walks around the campus selling food to fellow students and teachers.
His daily earnings range from P700 to P1,000, which he uses for his school expenses, daily needs, and even to support his family.
Before he was allowed to sell on campus, Dondy used to collect recyclable materials to make ends meet. When given the chance to sell food, he grabbed the opportunity and made sure not to neglect his studies.
“Noong una namamasura po ako sa loob ng campus namin, hanggang dumating po sa punto na pinayagan na po akong magtinda. Basta makatapos po ako ng pag-aaral ko, huwag pabayaan iyong pag-aaral,” he said.
Being the eldest of nine siblings, he has taken on a big responsibility, especially since his mother is battling cancer. His earnings help cover her medical expenses and provide school allowances for his younger siblings.
“Sa sobrang laki ng tulong kasi iyong nanay ko may sakit siyang cancer. Iyon iyong naging way ko para matulungan iyong medicine niya at saka iyong pambaon ng mga kapatid ko,” he explained.
Balancing school and work has not been easy, but Dondy remains determined. Despite the struggles, he pushes forward, knowing that his hard work will pay off. He believes that having dreams means doing everything possible to achieve them, so he refuses to let challenges stop him from reaching his goals.

“Kapag may pangarap, iyong gagawin mo lahat kasi ayoko iyong darating sa punto na pagsisisihan ko na hindi ko sinubukan na abutin iyong pangarap ko,” he added.
On his graduation day, Dondy plans to carry his baskets with him as he receives his diploma. For him, these baskets symbolize his journey—his hardships, perseverance, and the sacrifices he made to turn his dreams into reality.
