Graduating Student Shares Her Inspiring Educational Journey at UP

Graduating Student Earns Praises Online After Sharing Her University of the Philippines

A female graduating student shared her inspiring educational journey at the University of the Philippines.

A Twitter user named Katie Chelsy C. Perez, a BA Philippine Studies graduate, recently shared her inspiring story of resilience on social media, recounting her journey to finish college at the University of the Philippines (UP).

Perez narrated that since she was a young child, she had dreamed of studying at UP. She was among those students who lived by the motto, “UP or nothing.” After her senior high school graduation, she eagerly searched for her name on the list of UP passers but found it missing.

Katie followed her parents’ wish and pursued a BS Accountancy degree at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP). However, she also used it as an opportunity to apply as a transferee to UP.

Chelsy’s efforts bore fruit after months of preparation and hard work when she passed the BA Filipino and Panitikan ng Pilipinas programs.

She transferred to the BA Philippine Studies degree in her second year, motivated by a desire to use her writing skills to contribute important research to the nation. Three classes, three separate stories, but one common outcome: she graduated with honors from college.

Last month, a graduating student brings own medal & hang it around his neck as he received diploma.

In her first year at UP, she couldn’t shake the feeling that her academic abilities would be overshadowed by the fact that she hadn’t passed the UPCAT. However, her determination to study at UP overcame her anxiety of being invalidated.

Katie introduced herself as a transfer student from another university and proved to everyone that she deserved to be a UP student by demonstrating her talent, intelligence, and commitment to her studies.

Katie offered valuable advice for those who have experienced the disappointment of not passing the entrance exam.
