April 1, 2025 (Tuesday), Declared a National Holiday for Eid’l Fitr, Malacañang Palace Says
Malacañang Palace has officially declared April 1, 2025 (Tuesday), a national holiday across the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Fitr.
The announcement was made through Proclamation No. 839, which was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. following the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).
Eid’l Fitr is one of the most significant celebrations in Islam, symbolizing the conclusion of a month-long fasting period. It is a time of gratitude, prayer, and unity within the Muslim community.

Recognizing its importance, the government has set aside this day so that Filipinos can join their Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating this special occasion in peace and harmony.
The proclamation aligns with Republic Act 9177, which officially designates Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday in the country. The declaration ensures that the importance of the event is acknowledged and respected on a national level, building inclusivity and cultural appreciation among Filipinos.
“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, and to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr, it is necessary to declare 01 April 2025, Tuesday, a regular holiday throughout the country,” the proclamation states.

By observing Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday, the government hopes to emphasize its religious and cultural importance while also giving all citizens the opportunity to participate or reflect on its meaning.
With April 1 set as a national holiday, employees and students across the country can take the day off to celebrate or rest. The government encourages everyone to use this time to appreciate the values of unity, gratitude, and generosity that Eid’l Fitr represents.
