Amid Calls To Bring Duterte Home, DOJ Chief Remulla Reiterates Previous Statement of Former President

DOJ chief Boying Remulla spoke on the possibility that former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte will be brought back to the Philippines.

The turn of events last Monday caught the Filipino populace by surprise. The Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) upon his arrival from Hong Kong.

The PNP arrested Duterte following the release of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court. The ICC has long investigated the war on drugs of the previous administration.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is currently detained at a detention facility in the Hague, Netherlands. Former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea said Duterte is okay and is in “high spirits” during his latest visit to the former President.

On the eve of the day he was arrested, former Pres. Duterte flew with former ES Medialdea, a nurse, and his special assistant to Dubai en route for the Hague, Netherlands. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte flew to the Netherlands the following day to support her father.

However, contrary to previous reports that Vice Pres. Duterte will be part of the legal team of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, former presidential spokesman Harry Roque clarified that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte won’t enlist as a lawyer of her father.

Amid the detention of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, his supporters are calling on the government to return him to the Philippines. Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte and Veronica “Kitty” Duterte have filed separate petitions asking the Supreme Court for the return of the former President.

Recently, Department of Justice or DOJ Chief Boying Remulla was asked on the possible return of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Based on a report on GMA News, the Justice Secretary stressed that there is allegedly a notice that the hearings are ongoing already.

“It’s a done deal. He’s there. Andoon na siya eh,” the DOJ Chief said.

Based on the report, DOJ chief Boying Remulla also reiterated the previous message of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte taking accountability for the drug war of his administration. He stressed that the Filipino people has heard the statement of the former President.

“Lahat tayong Pilipino narinig natin na sinabi sa atin ni dating Pangulong Duterte na haharapin niya ang kahit na anong paratang sa kanya, kahit sa ICC. Kaya, ‘yun na ‘yun. Andoon na siya,” Remulla said.

Amid the arrest of the former president, Duterte’s partner, Honeylet Avanceña, appealed to the Filipinos for his safe return to the country.
