Malacañang Insists Gov’t Should Not Turn Against its Commitment w/ the Interpol

Malacañang responded to the fiery message of Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte against President Bongbong Marcos over his father’s arrest.

Contrary to the platform of the BBM-Sara tandem in 2022 which was unity, the Dutertes and the Marcoses which are two of the biggest and the most popular political clans in the Philippines have thrown tirades against each other. Recently, Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte slammed Pres. Bongbong Marcos over the arrest of his father.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte was arrested on Monday by the authorities of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). To confirm his arrest, the Presidential Communications Office released a statement saying that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has released an arrest warrant.

Duterte was detained for several hours at Villamor Air Base. On the eve of Monday, the former President was “forced” to board a flight to Dubai en route for the Netherlands where the headquarters of the ICC is located.

The arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte earned Pres. Bongbong Marcos countless criticisms. Malacañang defended the President saying the government only did its job and it has a commitment with the Interpol. Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stressed that Marcos Jr. did not betray anyone.

Speaking in front of the people of Davao at a recent event, Davao Mayor Baste Duterte told Pres. Bongbong Marcos that former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte allowed the burial of their late father, former dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., but PBBM had his father arrested.

Duterte told Marcos Jr. that they will fight back. He also said that PBBM is nothing apart from the government resources and the term that he has.

Recently, Malacañang reacted to the fiery message of Davao Mayor Baste Duterte against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on a report on GMA News, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro stressed that gratitude should not hinder the implementation of laws.

”Hindi po dapat mahinto ng utang na loob ang pagpapatupad ng batas. Hindi po dapat traydurin ang pagpapatupad ng commitment with the Interpol, Malacañang said.

Based on the report, Castro also expressed that Marcos Jr. has already thanked the Duterte patriarch for allowing the burial of their late father in 2016. Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte is running for vice mayor in the city this 2025 Elections. He is the running mate of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte who seeking a mayoralty comeback in Davao.
