According to the authorities, Honeylet Avancena will no longer be sued.
The Philippine National Police said it was eyeing to sue Honeylet Avancena after she hit an officer, but this will not happen anymore.
The common-law partner of former president Rodrigo Duterte is Honeylet Avancena, who was alleged to have hurt a police officer during the implementation of an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC). A video has circulated online where she was recorded hitting the officer using her phone.
To recall, during the dramatic arrest of ex-president Rodrigo Dutert,e while the arrest warrant from the ICC was being served, tension and emotions were high.
Avancena, partner of the former president, allegedly assaulted a female officer with a cell phone. The officer is Special Action Force (SAF) personnel, according to PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo.
“Ang may nasaktan po ay doon sa side ng PNP. Meron po tayong mga videos na magpapatunay na pinukpok po ni Ms. Honeylet yung isang pulis po natin na babae,” Fajardo said. The officer sustained a bad injury that she needed to be in a hospital for treatment.
However, on Friday, Fajardo revealed in an interview that the direct assault case against her will no longer be pursued. Accordingly, this was the personal decision of the involved officer, citing that it is a part of the hazards of her job.
Moreover, the cop will receive a medal as per the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
“Sa ngayon, bibigyan na lang namin ng Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting dahil may kasama ‘yung three days leave. Kaya ma-enjoy niya ‘yung leave na ‘yun dahil napukpok siya ni Honeylet sa ulo,” Torre said.
The Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting is given to officers “for having been wounded in action against an enemy as a direct result of an act of the enemy”. This is made up of a circular silver disc with the figure of Lapu-Lapu in the center.
