Bato Dela Rosa Is Feeling Betrayed By President Bongbong Marcos

“Betrayed” Bato Dela Rosa has this to say after the arrest of Rodrigo Duterte.

Senator Bato Dela Rosa slammed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s explanation after the arrest of Rodrigo Duterte was allowed.

”This is not just surrendering a Filipino citizen, it is surrendering a Filipino citizen who is accused of crimes against humanity, specifically murder, so it would be a different story. So we have to comply with the law and give justice, either to the victims or to the accused.”

This was a part of the statement from Malacañang regarding the arrest of Rodrigo Duterte, a former PH president, through Malacañang Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro.

Ex-president Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest earned attention locally and internationally. President Bongbong Marcos addressed this in a press conference, and according to him, what happened was in accordance with the law and something expected from the country as part of the community of nations. He added that the country’s sovereignty was not violated.

Senator Bato Dela Rosa, a close ally of the arrested former president, reacted, and he expressed his feeling of deep betrayal from the president. According to him, they expected him to protect them, as Marcos promised that he would not cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC).

“He told me before: ‘Don’t worry, I will never cooperate with the ICC because after you, who’s next? It might be us.’ That’s what he told me,” he expressed and repeatedly aired how he felt.

“Betrayal to the max,” he said.

Meanwhile, the president has clarified previously that he did not speak with the ICC regarding Duterte’s arrest. He noted that the country is just complying with its commitment to the Interpol.

But Dela Rosa did not buy Marcos’ explanation. For him, it was a “flimsy alibi,” which was a strong indication that Marcos was ready to surrender Duterte. He insisted that the president can reject Interpol’s request directly, citing that the country no longer recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC.
