Drunk Man Loses Phone to Thieves in Quezon City

Drunk Man Fell Victim to Theft in Quezon City

SNATCHING INCIDENT – A drunk man lost his phone after falling victim to theft along Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.

In the early hours of Thursday (March 6, 2025), a man who had been drinking fell victim to theft along Araneta Avenue. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing how the thieves distracted him before snatching his phone.

The victim was sitting outside a bar when two men, one wearing a black tank top and the other a white t-shirt, approached him. A few moments later, another man in a black long-sleeved shirt came forward, pretending to beg for money.

As the victim spoke to the man in white, the suspect behind him appeared to reach into his pocket. When the victim stood up and got on his motorcycle, the thief quickly grabbed his phone and ran.

The victim tried to chase him but was unable to catch up. When he returned to the scene, the man in white mocked him and even challenged him to call for backup.

A cashier from a nearby bar witnessed the event and suspected it was all planned. She noted that thieves often target people who have been drinking, knowing they are less alert. She also expressed concern about the frequent thefts in the area, stating that even bar employees feel unsafe.

Due to the rise in such incidents, the bar owner installed CCTV cameras to provide evidence when reporting to authorities. He shared his frustration, explaining that these crimes drive customers away and affect business.

“Bumili kami CCTV kasi nga wala kaming ebidensya kapag nagsumbungan sa barangay… nakakalungkot kasi (yung) negosyo, kailangan maka-survive sa mga ganto. Kaya lang nababawasan yung mga kustomer namin dahil nga sa mga katulad nila, natatakot, syempre yung iba nagkaka-trauma di na bumabalik,” the owner said.

Thieves often use the tactic of pretending to beg to get close to their targets. Barangay Doña Imelda official Jose Caduco confirmed that the victim reported the incident and that police are investigating.

Caduco acknowledged that theft is common in the area and assured residents that the barangay is working on strengthening security through patrols and crime prevention measures.
